Xining city is the political, economic, scientific and technological, cultural and traffic center of Qinghai Province with an average altitude of over 2200 meters. Xining was the most common passing channel of the famous Silk Road. Until now, it is still the only road by which to enter the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
   

Situation
Located on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the upper reaches of Huangshui River, Xining lies at the junction of the Lanzhou-Qinghai and the Qinghai-Tibet railway with good transportation. Bordering the harsh Tibet highland, Xining is 2,260 meters above sea level.

Weather & Temperature
Enjoying a good location surrounded by high mountains, the city has a relatively comfortable climate with neither bone-chilling winter nor sweltering summer and the annually temperature there is about 6 centigrade. Summer in Xining is an ideal season for tourists who can enjoy fresh and crisp weather.

The gem of the Tibetan culture-Ta'er Monastery in Xining China

Called the Summer Resort Capital of China for its cool summer. The region provides a number of attractions making a visit to the area well worth considering. The scenery of the Qinghai Lake, situated within Xining, and The Birds Island, situated on the northwest of Qinghai Lake. To the southwest, is the birthplace of the founder of the Gelugpa Sect. The gem of the Tibetan culture-Ta'er Monastery was built here. To the north of Xining is the Beichan Temple. Climbing the temple will reward you with a view of the city from the mountaintop. A site not to be missed is the Dongguan Mosque, one of the biggest mosque in northern China.

   

Transportation
The popularity of the Xining region has been enhanced by convenient transportation, as by plane, by road and by train.

By Air - Xining Caojiabao Airport is a very important transitional center in Qinghai Province as well as in the Northwest of China. Located in Caojiabao, Gaozhai Xiang, Huzhu County, about 30 kilometers away from downtown Xining City, Untill now, airlines traveling to Beijing, Guangzhou, Xian, Shanghai, Wuhan, Lanzhou, etc. have been opened.

By Train - As the traffic hub of Qinghai Province, in the important northwest region of China, Xining Railway Station possesses two trunk and three feeder railway lines, radiating out in all directions. The world famous Qinghai-Tibet Railway traverses Xining, taking on partof the transportations links between Tibet, Qinghai and Gansu Provinces.

By Bus - A number of bus routes within Xining offer visitors convenient tourist arrangements. Generally speaking, these buses can be divided into two kinds; first is the common regular self-service busses that reach the downtown districts and some suburbs.
